Orchard Beach

Aerial view showing Orchard Beach on the east shore of Pelham Bay Park. The original sand of the beach was replaced with fine white sand from the Rockaways, hauled there by barge at the direction of Parks Commissioner Robert Moses. This beach replaced the original tent colony on the site. Image circa 1936.
